Care & storage
Cleaning and drying, mostly. More toys are lost to damp storage and plasticiser migration than to motors wearing out.
These are the two things that decide whether a toy lasts two years or ten, and they are the two things nobody sells you alongside it. A cleaner spray is only necessary for electronics that cannot be rinsed under a tap. Dividers in a storage box matter far more than the lock on it. Neither is expensive, and both are easier to get right at the start than to fix later.

How to actually clean one
Most cleaning advice for these products is either too vague to act on or quietly wrong about the materials. The part that matters is knowing which of two categories yours falls into, because the two need different things and one of them cannot be sterilised at all.
Why it stopped charging
Rechargeable toys rarely fail at the motor. They fail at the charging port, and there are only three reasons it happens. Two of them are worth trying to fix.
